Indian Revenue Service, which is one of the premier Union Civil Services of India. The portal had a modest beginning in 2003 when the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) introduced it with the limited idea of providing web based facility for creating and updating service profiles of IRS officers in real time. This website was named www.irsofficersonline.org and launched on 1st September 2003.
Since it was felt that to make data entry for over 4000 IRS Officers not only extra manpower and time was required but also that the data will lack complete accuracy. Therefore, it was decided that IRS officers would themselves create and maintain their own service data on a net-based server by providing them with password protected access. It was also decided to use the website for online applications of transfer requests.
Indian Revenue Service published the Transfers/Postings in the grade of Commissioner of Income tax.
